Sound Moves were tasked with handling the freight of mulit-award winning theatrical production, The King & I.
Sound Moves UK were presented with the vigorous task of building 20+ tons of production freight consisting of costumes, props, audio, tech, and lighting equipment across 14 lower deck pallets. The operation was carried out at our London Heathrow premises, scheduled to depart two days from arrival on a flight to NRT for the show to start its run at the Tokyo Orb Theatre.
An intricate build for a production of this size meant our normal process and the working area outside wasn’t going to work due to the poor weather conditions we were expecting. We were also faced with a tight turnaround to get all 163 pieces checked weighed, screened and built, so for us, both time and space were going to be challenges we had to consider very early on.
Our operations team was separated into two groups. One to start unloading the trucks while the other group assembled a large industrial marquee tent (before any chance of rain) ensuring we now had a large dry secure area to both build and store the pallets. The two groups worked well at a good pace and seemingly finished simultaneously. We quickly regrouped and started the process of the build together.
